Dean Hoyle rules out Kevin Phillips bid

“If we got a call from Birmingham saying he wanted to come here then we’d try to do a deal.”

However Hoyle, who officially succeeds Ken Davy as chairman later this month, said: “We’re aware of the rumours concerning Kevin Phillips, but there’s nothing in them and there has been no contact.

“Of course if any players become available, they are considered, but any signings have to be within a set-down wage structure, and we have to be realistic.

“That’s not to say we aren’t ambitious, because we are determined to get into the Championship.

“But we must progress in a sensible, structured way.

“We have signings in mind and we are working hard to make them.

“They include a striker, although supporters shouldn’t be concerned if the first in-comers are in other positions. Just be patient!”
