Huddersfield Town's James Berrett signs new deal

JAMES BERRETT today committed himself to Town until 2012 and announced: “This is a great club to play for.”

The 20-year-old’s existing contract runs for another season, but boss Lee Clark was keen to sign up the academy product long-term.

The Galpharm boss has so far utilised the Republic of Ireland Under 21 midfielder’s talents sparingly, with just three starts and one appearance from the bench under his command.

But he sees a bright future in blue and white stripes for the Golcar-based player (below).

“I’m very happy to have James’ long-term future secured,” he said.

“I have talked to him about the situation and I can see him playing a vital role over the coming season.

“He is a very good footballer who possesses the whole package that a midfield player needs and I am looking forward to him breaking into the first XI.

“The work that he puts in on the training ground will be vital. You never stop learning as a footballer and repetition on the training pitch is the only way to improve.

“He fits the bill of being a talented footballer who could go on to play at a higher level, but he can still get physically stronger and he needs to have that bit more belief in himself – he needs to match the belief we have in him.

“He is very aware on the tactical side of the game and we are looking forward to him showing that in abundance.”
