Huddersfield Town patient on capture of Southend United's Clarke

Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: "We are not going to join in the speculation over players until we can officially say where we are.

"Peter Clarke is a free agent at the end of the month and he has been linked with our club and Charlton Athletic, but until he has discussed his situation with Southend then we have to wait."

Clarke began his career with Everton, making nine appearances for the Toffees though his stay at Goodison Park was marked by a number of loan deals that saw him appear for Blackpool, Port Vale and Coventry City.

Clarke made a permanent move to the Seasiders in 2004 and he made 95 appearances in the famous tangerine shirt before singing up at Southend in 2006.

He made an impact on the international scene at Under 21 level winning eight England caps.
