Clean sweep is ploy of the Rovers

TOWN will be up against a new regime at Tranmere next season.

The League I seventh placed club yesterday sacked their manager Ronnie Moore after three years at the helm.

His failure to guide them to the top-six play-offs last season ultimately cost him his job, although crowds at Prenton Park have dropped by 19% while Moore has been in charge and the board felt a change needed to be made.

They have acted just a week and a half before the League I fixtures are announced for next season along with the draw for the Carling Cup.

Moore did the double over Town last season, scoring a 2-1 win at the Galpharm in September and a 3-1 success at Prenton Park in March, defeats which stopped Lee Clark’s Galpharm side making a strong late push for the top six themselves.

Moore’s former assistant Peter Shirtliff quit the club to join League I rivals Swindon earlier this week.

Meanwhile, former Brighton manager Micky Adams, once a rumoured target for Town in the past, has been appointed boss of League II Port Vale. He’s their fourth manager in 21 months.
