Man who made the switch on Holdsworth's Huddersfield Town to Leeds United speculation

ANDY HOLDSWORTH is being linked with a move to Leeds – stirring memories for the last man to make the move from Town to Elland Road.

And Roy Ellam has one key piece of advice for the right-back: “If you do go, be prepared to get some stick, but give 100% and show respect to both sets of supporters and you’ll be okay.”

Talk of Holdsworth switching is particularly poignant for former centre-back Ellam, who was snapped up by Don Revie for £30,000 in August 1972.

For the pair come from neighbouring villages near Pontefract – Holdsworth Kinsley and Ellam from Hemsworth.

And, like Holdsworth, Ellam had previously scored a winning goal for Town against Leeds.

Holdsworth did it the season before last, when Town were 1-0 winners at the Galpharm (he has featured in two more sweet derby victories since).

Ellam’s effort came in a 2-1 home win in 1971-72, Town’s last season in the top flight.

Relegation led to the break-up of the squad which had earned promotion as Division II champions in 1970.

Goalkeeper David Lawson was the first to leave, in an £80,000 move to Everton, then Trevor Cherry joined Leeds for £100,000.

While a proposed £150,000 transfer to Liverpool had fallen through on medical grounds, Frank Worthington was clearly going as well (he finally went to Leicester for a cut-price £80,000).
