Huddersfield Town linked with £350,000 bid for Coventry City striker

"I could go out and sign five players today if I wanted to, but it’s about getting the right people and creating a squad with the right balance.

"Peter and Antony are both great additions – good players with good characters who have been producing consistently good performances for some time.

"It won’t surprise anyone that I’m out to sign a quality striker as well, and I’m confident we’ll do that, because when you look at what this club can offer, you know players will want to come.

"Both Peter and Anthony could have gone to clubs already at a higher level. That they’ve chosen to sign here shows that they are buying in to what we want to achieve.

"It’s a strange time at the moment because a lot of people, be they players, agents or chairmen, are away on holiday.

"In addition, most players’ contracts run until the end of June, so things always hot up after that.

"I’m working very hard on a string of deals at the moment, and if I can speed things along, I will, but like I said, if we have to be patient, then we will be."

On French frontman Tehoue, whose proposed January move had to be put on ice because of a contract dispute between the player and his Turkish club Konyaspor, Clark explained: "I’m not ruling a transfer in or out.

"The waters are still very muddy, and all I can say is that the issue is still with FIFA. We’ll continue to push for information, and as soon as we find out what the ruling is, we’ll make a decision."

Clark has welcomed the Football League’s move to allow clubs to name seven substitutes, three of which may be used, next season.

"As a manager, you have more options and more cover, and it also provides the chance to give younger players valuable matchday experience," he said.
