Danny Cadamarteri set for new challenge at Dundee United

DANNY CADAMARTERI did his fair share of homework before signing for Dundee United.

But nothing could prepare him for the closeness of the rivalry between his new club and their city rivals Dundee.

The Scottish city on the River Tay is well known for the three J’s – jam, jute and journalism – and having the closest senior football grounds in Britain.

"It’s weird just how near they are," said the former Town man, who is looking forward to starting pre-season training with United after agreeing a two-year contract.

"I started my career at Everton, which isn’t all that far from Anfield, and I’ve played at Nottingham, where the Forest and Notts County grounds are either side of the River Trent.

"But in Dundee, Tannadice Park and Dens Park are on the same street, and I reckon I could just about kick a ball from one to the other."

While the Dark Blues of Dens are planning a First Division promotion campaign, Cadamarteri and the Terrors of Tannadice are already up in the Premier League and aiming to go one better than last season by booking a Europa Cup berth.
