“I wanted to bring in a right back because of the situation with Andy Holdsworth and the uncertainty surrounding Martin Kelly’s availability from Liverpool, and I’m delighted we’ve got Lee because he will be a tremendous asset.”

Clark stressed he is not ruling out Kelly, who impressed on loan last season, and that he’s far from finished in the transfer market.

“Lee can also play as a holding midfield player or at centre-back and, like Antony Kay, is the sort of versatile player who gives me plenty of options,” added the manager.

“He is one of four signings already who have been added to Lee Novak from last January, and hopefully one or two others could be very close.”
