Huddersfield Town boss: Six or seven will have to leave

Huddersfield Town squad in pre-season training

LEE CLARK today confirmed “six or seven” players will have to leave the Galpharm as he continues to re-shape Town’s League I squad.

The boss had 30 players training today – including Gary Roberts who has signed a new three-year contract – and is eager to add at least a couple more before the season kicks-off against Southend at Roots Hall on August 8.

Loan man Martin Kelly may also be added to that number and, with club ambassador Andy Booth on standby if needed, Town would have a senior roster in the mid 30s.

That’s stretching the budget, and Clark today admitted: “Our squad is too big and will have to be trimmed. I said that was the case towards the end of last season and it’s still the case now.

“There will be players who are not going to force their way into my plans, that’s inevitable, and it’s pointless them hanging around playing reserve-team football.

“To that end there will be people going – probably six or seven – who will move on for the club’s sake and for their own sake.”
