Huddersfield Town striker Robbie Simpson hungry for chance at Chesterfield

ROBBIE SIMPSON is desperate to continue his goal chase at Chesterfield tonight.

The Town striker is still kicking himself after missing the chance to claim a late equaliser in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Colchester.

And he’d love to put the record straight when Lee Clark’s side try to snap a run of three successive away defeats in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second-round clash at Saltergate which kicks off earlier than usual at 7.30.

Ex-Coventry City man Simpson, whose sole Town goal to date came in the JPT first-round win at Rotherham United, said: “We were all gutted by Saturday’s defeat, because we all thought we deserved far better.

“We might have got a point had my late effort got in. I managed to get clean contact, but the keeper diverted it and a defender hacked it away. It was one of those where if I’d scuffed it, it might have ended up going in.”

The League I setback at Colchester was only a fourth start for Simpson, who added: “Competition is tough, which makes it even more vital to score goals when you are in the side.

“Hopefully I’ll get another opportunity tonight.”

It’s a fight to the finish, with the tie to be decided by penalties if level after 90 minutes.

Town manager Lee Clark, whose captain Peter Clarke serves a one-match ban after Saturday’s sending off, said: “This is a competition I take very seriously.”

Chesterfield have signed Wolves defender Mark Little on loan.
