Team is most important thing: Huddersfield Town hat-trick hero Rhodes

JORDAN RHODES became Town’s first hat-trick hero in more than three years as Exeter City were thumped 4-0, then insisted: “It was all about the team effort.”

The 19-year-old set what is believed to be a piece of Football League history by chalking up a trio of headed goals in 10 minutes of play.

His quickfire feat beat the previous best for an all-headed hat trick set by Everton legend Dixie Dean, renowned for his aerial prowess, more than 70 years ago.

And the first Town threesome since Andy Booth punished Rotherham United in a 4-1 home win in March 2006 put Lee Clark’s men back up to eighth in League I.

“I benefited from some great deliveries by our widemen Anthony Pilkington and Gary Roberts,” said Rhodes, whose goals came in the 44th, 50th and 52nd minutes (there were two minutes of first-half stoppage time) and followed Lee Novak’s 17th-minute opener.

“It was lovely to get a hat trick, but the most important thing was that we got a much-needed win after a frustrating barren run.

“We had gone six games without one, and we were all annoyed after coming close at both Colchester and Chesterfield but losing out.
