Huddersfield Town ace Antony Kay ready for Swindon Town test

ANTONY KAY reckons Town’s come-from-behind win over Hartlepool United proved an important point.

And after he and his teammates toughed it out against the North-Easterners, the midfielder believes there is every reason to be optimistic ahead of tonight’s latest League I test at Swindon Town.

Looking back at Saturday’s 2-1 Galpharm win, which hoisted Town up to third in the table, the 26-year-old explained: “We let ourselves down in the first half.”

Town trailed to Gary Liddle’s 19th-minute opener for Pools, and Kay continued: “We weren’t doing what we should have been doing.

“We weren’t getting to the ball first, we weren’t passing properly, and we weren’t using our widemen they way we have been.”

It all changed after the break, and the former Barnsley and Tranmere man added: “It was totally different, and we dominated from start to end.

“We got two (a 54th-minute own goal by Peter Hartley and Robbie Williams’ 67th-minute winner) and it could and should have been more.

“It showed the strength of character and the desire in this side, and it also showed that when we start attacking teams with momentum, there aren’t that many who can live with us.

“The manager seemed happy with the final outcome and the lads were too, because we had all worked hard for the win.

“It was said afterwards that there will be more games where we have to grind out wins than there will be like the ones against Brighton (when Town won 7-1) and Wycombe (6-1) and we showed we can battle.”

Town certainly did that in their last away game at Oldham at the start of the month, when Williams was also the scorer in a 1-0 win.

And Kay knows full well Town might well have to scrap for the spoils to Swindon, who went ninth by winning 1-0 at Carlisle on Saturday.
