FRI AM: Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes ready for Leeds United
Dec 4 2009 by Dougie Thomson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
JORDAN RHODES has experienced an East Anglian derby from the bench – now he wants to be right in the middle of a West Yorkshire showdown!
Town’s 13-goal top scorer still remembers the thrill of his inclusion in the Ipswich Town squad for the Championship clash at Norwich City in April 2008, when Town manager Lee Clark was assistant to Canaries boss Glenn Roeder.
It turned out to be a watching brief for the frontman, who remained on the bench at Carrow Road, where honours ended even at 2-2 in front of 29,656.
Tomorrow the 19-year-old hopes to get the nod from Clark to start the big lunchtime League I showdown at leaders Leeds.
“Derbies are looked forward to by players as well as supporters,” said the close-season signing from the Suffolk club.
“At Ipswich, all the lads picked out the Norwich game when the fixtures were published, and the rivalry down there is pretty intense.
“Town and Leeds are even closer geographically, and it soon became clear to me how much this match means to everyone in Huddersfield.
“Being part of the Ipswich-Norwich game was a great experience, even though I didn’t get onto the pitch.
