Examiner transfer window webchat: Fans have their say
Jan 9 2010 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
OUR website at www.examiner.co.uk has seen record views this week as we’ve brought you the latest on the snow news – but we also use the latest technology to keep you up-to-date with sport. Yesterday we hosted a liveblog with users and HTAFC reporter Doug Thomson chatting about the football transfer window
WHAT DO HUDDERSFIELD TOWN NEED TO DO DURING THE TRANSFER WINDOW
Terrier: Do you think we need to strengthen and if so what positions?
Sheriff: Hi chaps, when is that left back going to sign (un-named due to some contract reasons)?
Sheriff: And what is the latest on Zak Whitbread?
Blue army: It has to be left back and middle of the park.
DOUG THOMSON: It's widely accepted there has to be an improvement in defending if Town are to make a serious challenge, so the logical place to begin is at the back.
Silky: Left back still seems weak to me, any plans for a loan or a signing to come in?
Pricey: With Butler gone surely we are bringing another couple in?
Examiner: There's a rumour about a player from Scotland in today's paper Doug Mulgrew a left back - what do you know about him? Have you spoken to LC?
Blue army: Sounds like Mulgrew sounds a good bet.
Sheriff: Deano has stated it would have to be one out and one in so Clark is already making spaces available.
Terrier: I agree but who do you sign? Honestly not seen many players in League 1 much better than players in the top three sides who won’t sign for us.
Blue army: (Mulgrew is) highly rated by Mark McGhee, who tried to resign him.
Jake: So Butler is good enough for the Championship, but not good enough for Town? How does that work?
Blue army: Mulgrew has scored a few goals; scored two against Celtic
DOUG THOMSON: Given trialists who have come in, Lee Clark's attempt to sign Zak Whitbread last month and Andy Butler's departure to Blackpool for the rest of the season, it's clear a centre-back is a priority, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Town targeted a left-back as well.
Examiner: Norwich are rumoured to be signing Whitbread – they've signed Oli Johnson who Town were after.
Chris: Get a great striker and Town will be in the promotion race for sure but improve the defence first
Terrier: I heard Whitbread is going to Norwich now.
Blue army: Yeah, but Doug, if you have a Darren Bullock in the middle of the park, you can live with the centre backs we already have.
Silky: Still need to dominate midfield more, though if defence is stronger this should spread to midfield.
Terrier24: We don’t need (Oli) Johnson.
Blue army: We need another Darren Bullock.
Terrier24: We should make Lee Clark play.
THE NEED FOR EXPERIENCE
Silky: Squad balance correct, still think an experienced striker would bring on our young guns.
Silky: Nasty defender exactly what we need and a left sided Pelts (Right-back Lee Peltier). Kev Philips would be ideal.
Sheriff: It would be good if we could get a bit of experience into the side but not another has-been.
Silky: We do have strikers but an experienced head alongside will make them more potent. Other teams know our threat and are now nullifying it; season gonna get tougher from now
DOUG THOMSON: Kevin Phillips is the rumour that just won't go away! Even now, people are telling me they've seen him eating at various restaurants around Huddersfield! Birmingham seem to be hinting they would let him leave and he would certainly add a touch of experience to the forward line.
