Transfer deadline day round up: Former Huddersfield Town loan man switches Celtic for Middlesbrough plus Harry Redknapp on Keane switch

SUNDERLAND have swooped to complete the capture of Tottenham defender Alan Hutton on loan until the end of the season.

The Scotland defender, who signed for the club for £9million from Rangers in 2008, has only started one Barclays Premier League game this season.

His arrival comes as a boost for Black Cats boss Steve Bruce, who also signed Sheffield United’s Matthew Kilgallon last week.

Wigan made Bolivia striker Marcelo Moreno their second signing on transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old has joined on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the season, subject to visa and international clearance.

His arrival follows the earlier deal for 19-year-old forward Victor Moses who joined from Crystal Palace for a fee of around £2.5million.

Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge has joined Derby on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old, who had a month-long spell at Preston before the turn of the year, will go straight into the Rams squad for the Coca-Cola Championship game at his former club Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Blades in turn clinched the loan signing of Sunderland defender Nyron Nosworthy just before the transfer deadline.

The 29-year-old, who signed a new contract with the Black Cats earlier this season, has joined the Blades until the end of the current campaign.

Fulham midfielder Wayne Brown has joined Coca-Cola League I side Bristol Rovers on a one-month loan deal.

TOTTENHAM striker Robbie Keane added another chapter to his remarkable transfer history after securing a loan deal with Celtic until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international, whose cumulative fees total more than £70m after previous big-money moves to Inter Milan, Leeds and Liverpool, tied up terms on a temporary agreement four hours before the Scottish deadline at midnight.

Keane had fallen behind Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch in the pecking order at White Hart Lane and the recent arrival of former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen increased pressure for places.

Deadline day last year saw Keane return to Spurs from Liverpool after an unhappy six-month spell and history has repeated itself again.

Room was created at Parkhead by the reported £3.5m move of former Town loan striker Scott McDonald to Middlesbrough.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp admitted the 29-year-old wanted regular football, although he stressed Keane had not played his last game for Spurs.

"It has been difficult for Robbie because he has not been starting regularly and he is not a happy lad when he is not," he said.

"If he is not going to play he is better off going somewhere he will and I think he is a big Celtic fan and it is an opportunity he wanted to take while it was there.

"But he has definitely not played his last game for Tottenham."

Redknapp also revealed the club had agreed a deal for Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic until the Bosnia international signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Stoke for a fee of £3.25m.

"Begovic did the deal. He came in and had a medical and then I think his agent changed his mind and they got a better deal at Stoke," added the Spurs boss, who allowed defenders Alan Hutton and Kyle Naughton to go on loan to Sunderland and Middlesbrough respectively.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis was delighted to secure the services of 22-year-old Begovic, having tried to sign his Pompey teammate David James a fortnight ago only for a loan deal to break down over salary issues.

"Asmir is someone we have been tracking for some time and we believe that potentially he is the best young keeper in the country," said the Potters boss.
