Simon Charlton says ex-Norwich City colleague Lee Clark can take Huddersfield Town up

“With me still living down here (with wife Lisa and two-year-old daughter Olivia) I talk to Norwich fans all the time,” he explained.

“Just like in Huddersfield, there’s a lot of passion for the club, and with Norwich being the only league team for miles around, they have a big area for drawing fans.

“Like Town, they really shouldn’t be down in League I, and they’ve certainly made a good fist of getting back up at the first attempt.

“They’re making a big thing of the Huddersfield game because it’s the first in a run which also includes a home game against Swindon and a trip to Leeds.

“If they can get seven or even nine points from sides who are also at the top end of the table, it would be a major boost to their promotion hopes.

“I’m hoping they have to make do with six – by beating Swindon and Leeds! As I said, I’m still a Town man and I’d love to see them promoted.”

Of his own ambitions, Charlton said: “I definitely want to go further in management, and I’m on track to complete my UEFA A licence soon.

“Coaching the kids at Norwich was great, but I was keen to get into adult football again, and the Mildenhall job has allowed me to do that.

“Obviously it’s grass-roots football, but dealing with players is the same whatever level you’re at. Sometimes you’re a sergeant-major, sometimes a social worker, and this is great experience for me.”
