Huddersfield Town and Ladies in formal link

HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies have forged a new official link with the League I club.

While a loose partnership has been in place since the female side was formed, the partnership has now been made official after talks between Town Ladies chairman David Mallin and directors of the Galpharm club.

"We are delighted to form this official link with Huddersfield Town and we trust that it will help our club develop in coming years," said Mallin.

"The official tie-up will help us to attract players of all ages both locally and throughout Yorkshire."

Town commercial director Sean Jarvis added: "There was a loose agreement in the past, but I am really pleased that we have made a more official arrangement.

"Huddersfield Town Ladies use our crest and represent our club in their field, so I feel that it is important that they are officially affiliated.

"Ladies’ football is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and hopefully this new relationship will open us up to a new audience and attract families to the club."

Town Ladies continued their winning streak in a tight North-East Regional League Premier Division encounter at Sheffield United Community Ladies – winning 2-1.

Sheffield started well and could have been one up after a minute, but Town gradually started to settle, though clear-cut chances were few and far between for either side.

Kate Mallin almost put Town ahead on 11 minutes when her direct free-kick was tipped by the United keeper and two minutes later and it was Laura Carter in the Town goal who made a great save to push the ball over.

On 43 minutes Town had a goal disallowed for offside and a minute later a snapshot from Mallin was turned around the post.

The second half started much the same way with both defences coping well, but gradually Town started to create some sustained pressure.

On 75 minutes Town worked a good move down the left with Jo Symington providing a cross which was only half-cleared, the ball being pounced upon by Jade Robshaw, who finished well from 10 yards.

Ten minutes later Town were two up. Katie Barnes was upended in the area and Emma Poole struck the resultant penalty coolly past the keeper.
