Huddersfield Town boss Lee Clark waits to make decision on loaned-out players

LEE CLARK will wait until Sunday to decide which of Town’s loaned-out players will return to join the promotion push.

Winger Lionel Ainsworth, whose time at Brentford ended abruptly after his public snub of boss Andy Scott, has been told to take time out before returning for pre-season training.

Centre-back Andy Butler will remain at Blackpool for their Championship play-off bid, which starts against Nottingham Forest at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

And striker Phil Jevons will stay with Morecambe if they, as looks likely, make the League II play-offs.

That leaves left-back Joe Skarz (pictured), who is at Shrewsbury, and midfielder Jim Goodwin, who is with Oldham.

Goodwin, whose stint at Boundary Park has been interrupted by a thigh injury, could help the Latics do parent club Town a big favour on Saturday.

That’s because they host Charlton, who are a position and a point above sixth-placed Town going into the final round of games.

Former Scunthorpe man Goodwin, contracted to the Galpharm club until 2011, made his first appearance since February as Oldham lost 3-0 at Yeovil on Saturday.

He has totalled seven appearances for the Lancashire club while Skarz, also contracted to 2011, has played 19 times for League II Shrewsbury.

The Shrews close their campaign at Port Vale, who still have a chance of making the play-offs, and Clark explained: “We’ll take stock of things after Saturday’s games.

“Obviously they are our players, and if they are needed, they will return and join the existing squad as we prepare for the play-offs.”

Town have confirmed that Jevons, who has netted 19 times during a season-long loan at Morecambe, is out of contract this summer so becomes a free agent.

Boss Sammy McIlory, who is assisted by former Town player Mark Lillis, would be keen to keep the 30-year-old Liverpudlian on the books.

“I’ve never had a striker at Morecambe who has scored nearly 20 goals in a season, it would be a fantastic asset and a super signing,” he said.

“Phil is a fine professional, he likes it here and has provided our cutting edge this season. I’d love to sign him permanently.”
