Huddersfield Town's Jamie McCombe: Goals are good but the FA Cup third round is better
Nov 29 2010 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
JAMIE McCOMBE looked back on his fourth Town goal and said: “It’s great to score, but it’s even better to be in the third round of the FA Cup.”
The big defender joined Jordan Rhodes, Anthony Pilkington, Benik Afobe, Antony Kay and Gary Roberts on the scoresheet as Town tormented League II Macclesfield to run out 6-0 winners in their second-round tie.
Now McCombe, whose headed goal was the fourth of the afternoon, is targeting a place in the Northern final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with victory at Tranmere tomorrow.
Rovers boss Les Parry watched Saturday’s demolition job at the Galpharm.
And McCombe pointed out: “He’ll be working on ways to combat us, but we’ve scored 10 goals in two games now and while we know what tough opponents they can be, we should go there with confidence.
“We had a good (4-1) win over MK Dons last Tuesday and followed it up against Macclesfield, and we want to create that winning mentality.
“We’re playing good quality, passing football and creating lots of chances, and we’ve shown that if we can get a couple of early goals, we can go on and open teams up.”
