LEE CLARK is hoping that specialist treatment will help put Gary Roberts and Liam Ridehalgh back on the road to full fitness.

Town winger Roberts has been troubled by a hamstring niggle while left-back Ridehalgh is returning from a foot injury which ended his season prematurely last time around.

Having started the friendly at Wrexham, Roberts made only a brief appearance from the bench at Hamilton on Sunday before making a surprise return for Tuesday’s game at Dunfermline.

With the squad now back from Scotland, Roberts is set to seek further advice on what is suspected to be a nerve problem.

Ridehalgh, yet to play in pre-season, is to wear a special insole to help prevent a recurrence of the injury sustained during the 2-0 win at Tranmere in April.

“Liam is making good progress, but we have to be sure he’s right before playing him in a game,” said Clark, who will send teams to AFC Emley tonight and Fleetwood tomorrow (both 7.30).

“Gary’s problem is a frustration. We took him off against Hamilton because at this stage, there was no point taking a risk, but the problem had subsided by Tuesday. It’s something which has troubled him on and off but is not there all the time and we really need to get to the bottom of it before the season begins.”
