LIAM COOPER cast his eyes around the Galpharm Stadium and announced: “I’ve got the move I wanted – now I need games under my belt.”

The on-loan Hull centre-back knows he faces tough competition if he is to be a feature in the Town back four.

But there’s no doubting the determination of the 19-year-old who has played in the Premier League, Championship and League I, but can boast just 15 first-team games.

“I know lads the same age as me who have played 40 or 50 times,” said Cooper, who was born in Hull but played junior international football for Scotland through his grandfather.

“That’s where I need to get to, and that’s what I hope to achieve by working hard here at Huddersfield.”

Cooper, who played for Hull in Premier League matches against Liverpool and Arsenal in 2009-10, is contracted at the KC until 2013.

But he’s found it tough to force his way into the side, and went out on loan to Carlisle last season – only for his Cumbrian stint to be interrupted by a broken hand picked up against Town!

“It was in the league game here last February,” said Cooper, who had figured in Carlisle’s 4-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final first-leg win over Lee Clark’s side at Brunton Park a fortnight before.

“It was a bit of a freak thing, because I got in a tangle with Alan Lee and somehow got my hand stuck in his shirt. We went to ground and that’s when I got the break.

“It was frustrating because we lost the game (2-0) and it meant I had to have time out just when I seemed to be getting a run of games, which was the reason I went to Carlisle in the first place.

“I went back and played twice more after the hand had healed, but I just wish I could have avoided that injury!

“Having said that, I enjoyed my time at Carlisle, who are a great club, but I have a new challenge now, and as I said, I want to make the most of it.

“There was talk at the end of last season that I could be loaned out again, so I got my head down over the close-season and kept myself as fit as possible.

“Things started to develop soon after we reported back, and when a club like Huddersfield come in for you, it’s not an opportunity you want to turn down.

“It’s an awesome stadium with a big newly-laid pitch, and we want to play some entertaining football on it.”

Of his own attributes, Cooper explained: “I’m left-footed, I like to think I’m aggressive in a controlled way and I’m not afraid to be vocal.

“I believe I have some qualities which will add to the squad here, and having played alongside the lads in pre-season, I believe we’re well placed to make a promotion push.

“I know how desperate the club are to get into the Championship, and having been at Hull when they moved up through the divisions, I know the potential is here to do something similar.

“The two clubs are similar in terms of stadium, size and support base, and in both cases the fans let you know when you’re performing – and when you aren’t!

“Obviously I hope the supporters will be chanting my name – they’ve been great so far – and I can promise them I will be giving everything to the cause.”
