PETER CLARKE has called on Town to turn performances into points as they prepare for tonight’s trip to Hartlepool.
The skipper is hunting a hat trick of wins at Victoria Park after a 2-0 triumph in 2009-10 and a 1-0 success last season.
And a clean sheet is another key target as Town aim to set a new club record of 28 consecutive league matches unbeaten.
Clarke has seen plenty of positives in two League I draws, against Bury and Rochdale, and the Carling Cup victory at Port Vale.
And the experienced centre-back believes the new-look squad is getting tighter with every game played.
“The two league results have been frustrating because we could and should have won both matches,” said the 29-year-old former Southend man, pictured.
“But as a group, we’re getting to know each other better as people and players, and we all believe we’re heading in the right direction.
“It’s a cliche, but it’s true. Nothing is won in August. There is a long way to go and a lot of football to be played and we are all confident we will end up where we want to be.”
Mick Wadsworth’s Hartlepool have the same two-draw record as Town, and Clarke added: “It’s a tight ground with the crowd close up to you and never an easy place to go.
