Fans’ price protest to cut Huddersfield Town following at Sheffield United

HUDDERSFIELD Town will have a four-figure following at Bramall Lane tonight – but the figure looks like being well down on those for the recent games at Rochdale and Oldham as fans protest at the £28.50 admission fee being charged by Sheffield United.

There were 2,620 Town fans at Spotland and 2,395 at Boundary Park, while 4,202 made the midweek trek to Sheffield for last season’s memorable 2-0 win over Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Town, who could have had 4,000 tickets, had sold 1,049 by yesterday lunchtime, with fans able to buy at the Galpharm until 4.00 today and at Bramall Lane tonight.

The boycott has been organised through fans’ website Down at the Mac, with regular poster Neil Waine saying: “It’s ridiculous.

“I’ve been a fan for 32 years, home and away as much as possible. But a time comes when enough is enough.

“I know friends that will still go because they don’t want to miss it. But they’re playing on fans’ loyalties.

“I think there’ll be a lot of empty seats and this will backfire at the Blades because they will lose revenue.”

Sheffield United say that in common with many other clubs, they operate a three-tier pricing policy, with Town a top-category clash.

l Seats are still available on the Town Patrons bus to MK Dons on Saturday.

Travel, leaving the Galpharm at 9.00am, and a three-course meal en route costs £20 per person. Ring Martin Lister on 01484 714287 to book.
