GARY ROBERTS is one of only two members of the last Huddersfield Town team to take on Bradford who are still at the club – and he’d love a repeat scoreline in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight.

For the winger grabbed his first Town goals with a double as the Bantams were beaten 4-0 at the Galpharm in the first round of the Carling Cup in August 2008.

“I remember the game well,” said the 27-year-old who was signed from Ipswich by Lee Clark’s predecessor Stan Ternent and lined up alongside his current teammate Danny Cadamarteri.

“It was only my second match for the club, and we got all four goals in the second half (Jon Worthington and Robbie Williams got the others).

“I’d drifted inside for the first and just got my head down and ran through on goal, while Cads did all the legwork for my second, leaving me with a simple finish.

“There was a good crowd (8,932) and they brought a fair few (3,229) and it was great to be able to celebrate with our fans.”

Roberts, 27, was doing the same thing after scoring his fifth goal of the campaign and 37th for the club in the 4-0 League I win at Brentford on Saturday.

And after the disappointment of losing in last season’s JPT Northern final, he’s eager to help set up a trip to Wembley for the supporters.

“We came close last season but not close enough,” recalled Roberts of the 4-3 aggregate defeat by Carlisle.

“We let ourselves down badly when we got done 4-0 up at Brunton Park, and we left ourselves with just a bit too much to do in the second leg, although we came pretty close.
