LEE CLARK expressed his disappointment at failing to defeat Walsall but pride in matching Nottingham Forest’s best-ever Football League unbeaten run of 42 matches.

His second-placed side will aim for a new best in their next League I game, at home to Notts County on Saturday week, and the boss said: “The lads can now put on their CV that they have matched what was a fantastic side.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement in any team sport to go so long without losing and it shows we have something special going on here.”

Clark, leading his side for the first time since quashing stories linking him with the managerial vacancy at Championship club Leicester, said of the match: “The performance was very good, the outcome not so good. We expect three points at home, but we only got one having given a poor goal away.

“That’s disappointing because we passed the ball very well through the middle of the pitch, got the wide players into the game and got crosses into the box.

“We created numerous chances and on another day would have had more than a one-goal advantage.

“Walsall showed great guts and determination, but I think we deserved to win.”

Jordan Rhodes, who today joined up with Scotland ahead of Friday’s friendly in Cyprus, was unable to take advantage of a string of chances.

But Clark, who had Danny Cadamarteri in his 16 for the first time in the league this season, said of his 13-goal top scorer: “It was one of those days.

“Jordan’s goal ratio remains very good and next time an opportunity arises he won’t flinch in having a go – that’s why he’s such a great striker.”

Rhodes was watched by Scottish Football Association representative Graham Brown, while there were scouts present from Premier League clubs Arsenal, Blackburn, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester United, QPR and Sunderland as well as Celtic.
