SAMUEL JOHNSON pointed out that when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.
The good news for Huddersfield Town fans is that the players are far from fed up of visiting the capital.
Lee Clark’s side haven’t lost a League I game there since going down 3-0 at Brentford in April 2010.
SInce then there have been five matches and four wins, with the last three trips down the M1 bringing victory – twice against Brentford (1-0 in March and 4-0 in October) and once against Charlton (1-0 in April).
Town, of course, return to Charlton, this time with on-loan pair Jon Parkin and Alex Bruce in tow, for Monday’s big top-of-the-table clash.
And captain Peter Clarke, delighted to have led Town to a new Football League record of 43 games unbeaten against Notts County last Saturday, sees no reason why the team can’t maintain their momentum and close the gap on the leaders to two points.
Only one side have got the better of Charlton in the league this season, Stevenage winning 1-0 at Broadhall Way last month.
And Chris Powell’s side have dropped only six points in their eight home games so far, with Scunthorpe, Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere forcing draws.
A sixth successive league win is the target for the South London side, but Clarke is confident Town cap upset their rhythm.
“We respect Charlton because they are up there for a reason, but there is no fear of going there,” said the 29-year-old centre-back.
“There’s a great game in prospect. It’s two sides at the top end of the division, it will be keenly contested and it’s a game we’re really looking forward to.
“There will be a big crowd, and the Sky cameras will be there, it’s a chance to show the nation what we’re all about.
“You look at when we played Sheffield United, Brentford and MK Dons and see we’ve acquitted ourselves well against some of the sides at the top of the division.
“Our away form has been decent for some time now and we will go there in good spirits, believing we can do what we need to do.”
