JORDAN RHODES might have started the match determined to keep any goal celebration muted out of respect to his friends at Sheffield Wednesday.

But by the time his fourth flew in six minutes into stoppage time to earn Huddersfield Town a valuable point and keep them fourth In League I, the strike star whose dad Andy is the Owls goalkeeping coach just couldn’t help himself!

“I didn’t want to overdo things because I didn’t want to be disrespectful to the people I know at Sheffield Wednesday through my dad,” said the Scotland Under 21 star, who now has 19 goals at club level this season to go with his six in international outings.

“But with the equaliser coming so dramatically and in front of our fans, I just couldn’t not celebrate, and even our keeper Ian Bennett came up to join in.

“It just goes to show you should never give up in football.

“I remember Stephen (Bywater, the Wednesday keeper) asking the referee how long was left and being told 30 seconds. More than that seemed to go by, but I’m not complaining.

“After leading 2-0, those four goals from Wednesday knocked the stuffing out of us, but our third goal lifted both the players and our fans.

“Reflecting now, it seems more like a win than a draw, and after losing our previous two games, this result will give us a big lift ahead of an important holiday period.” Chesterfield are next up at the Galpharm on Boxing Day.

The last Town player to score four times in one game was Craig Maskell in a 5-1 Division III (now League I win over Cardiff at Ninian Park in March 1990).

The others to have achieved the feat are Jack Foster, Walter Stacey, Jack Cock, Charlie Wilson, George Brown (twice), George McLean, Dave Mangnall, Jimmy Glazzard, Ken Taylor, Mark Lillis, Brian Stanton and Duncan Shearer.

Mangnall and Alf Lythgoe have both netted five times in one match.

Rhodes now has 60 goals for Town and 70 in all at club level.
