JORDAN RHODES may be the headline star of the moment, but he’s far from the only jewel in the Huddersfield Town crown.
Chairman Dean Hoyle says the club expect plenty of interest in their squad come the January transfer window, but they are determined to keep all their best assets while allowing only those who are surplus to requirements to move on.
Town have been unable to recall centre-back Jamie McCombe who will stay on loan at Preston and is unavailable for the Boxing Day clash with Chesterfield at the Galpharm, when manager Lee Clark is without suspended Peter Clarke.
Hoyle said: “People talk about Jordan and tend to forget about the other good young players we have.
“Jack Hunt has been creating a lot of interest through his performances and rightly so, because he could be one of the best right-backs in the country given time.
“I believe that in Oscar Gobern (from Southampton) we have a young player of enormous talent.
“To say he has been out a long while through injury, what he produced in a defensive midfield role on Saturday at Sheffield Wednesday was terrific.
“He tackled, won headers and dictated the play in a way which belied his 20 years and, as far as I am concerned, Oscar Gobern is Premiership bound. He’s six-foot plus and doesn’t give the ball away and I reckon he’s got lots and lots to offer this club and to make a very good career.”
