WYCOMBE boss Gary Waddock hailed Jordan Rhodes after Friday’s five-goal romp but admitted his side’s 6-0 home defeat was “embarrassing”.
It was the third-bottom Buckinghamshire side’s heaviest-ever home defeat in the Football League.
And a crestfallen Waddock said: “Bottom line is they’ve got better players than us, it's as simple as that.
“Obviously the scoreline is embarrassing – I’m very, very disappointed because it wasn’t pleasant at all.
“Jordan Rhodes is a very talented player and we knew it was going to be difficult against him.
“But we caused our own problems with our defending.
“Some of the goals we have conceded, not only against Huddersfield but all season, have been beyond a joke in all honesty.
“Every time there was a set play, you thought that there was an opportunity for them to score because we didn’t defend the situation well enough.
“I’m going to have a long, hard look at this because the players have had a fantastic opportunity.
“They’re given everything and they’re looked after, but we got nothing back from them.”
Wycombe skipper Gareth Ainsworth apologised to the club’s fans.
“None of us performed,” he said. “We’ve got to take responsibility.
“The gaffer’s brought us all here and nobody performed for him so I feel sorry for him. We let him down.
“It always seems to come down on the manager. That wasn’t his fault, the players have to take responsibility. We definitely owe Gary a performance.
