GARY ROBERTS has joined Huddersfield Town’s injury list – but boss Lee Clark hopes to have Damien Johnson, Calum Woods and Scott Arfield back for Saturday’s trip to Tranmere.

Galpharm wing ace Roberts will tomorrow have surgery on a hernia problem, and could be out for the next six weeks as Clark’s men bid to stay in League I’s automatic promotion places.

The news has already sparked suggestions of a move for Ben Marshall, the Stoke starlet who impressed against Town this season while on loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

But Clark was quick to point out he can already call on Danny Cadamarteri, who replaced Roberts during Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 home win over Brentford, and Donal McDermott.

“Cads did well when he came on and Donal is looking sharp in training, so his opportunity will come,” said Clark. “And of course we have Danny Ward, who is in a good run of form.”

Johnson, who has had a hamstring problem, and ankle-injury victim Woods both took part in a work-out on the Galpharm pitch immediately after Saturday’s third successive win.

And Clark, whose side are back in the top two for the first time since mid-November, is hopeful Arfield will be available after an ankle problem.

Meanwhile, the boss will today check on striker Lee Novak, who was ruled out of the Brentford game after damaging an ankle during training on Friday.

On Roberts, who twice hit the bar before coming off in the 66th minute, Clark explained: “It could be anywhere between three and six weeks.

“It depends on whether he needs to have both sides done and on how long any area operated on takes to repair.

“Gary did well to play on Saturday, because having done the same thing myself, I know it can be very uncomfortable. That’s why I said a big ‘thank you’ to him when he came off.”
