LEE NOVAK and Danny Ward were on target as Town finished the regular League I campaign with a victory - and earned home advantage in the second leg of their play-off semi-final against MK Dons.
The Buckinghamshire side's 1-0 home defeat by Walsall means a fourth-placed finish for Simon Grayson's side, who go to stadium:mk next Saturday (12.30).
The Dons will come to the Galpharm a week on Tuesday, May 15 (7.45) as Town, competing in the play-offs for the third season running, aim to reach a second successive final.
The other semi-final will be between third-placed Sheffield United and sixth-placed Stevenage after Sheffield Wednesday clinched automatic promotion alongside champions Charlton.
At the Galpharm, Novak netted in the last minute of the first half, glancing home a header from Jack Hunt's cross for his 17th goal of the season.
Ward struck in the 72nd minute, with his well-placed low shot from Kallum Higginbotham's flicked header providing a fourth goal of the campaign.
