Huddersfield’s Republic of Ireland fans ready to fly the flag in Poznan

A GROUP of Town fans hope to be doing the Poznan tomorrow!

Nineteen members of the Huddersfield branch of the Republic of Ireland Supporters’ Club are en route to the Polish city for the Group C clash with Croatia.

The club was formed last year by a group of friends who meet at the Irish Centre and are also Town season-ticket holders.

“It’s our longest trip yet and we’re looking forward to flying our giant flag and spreading the word about Huddersfield,” said secretary John Lambe.

“It was great to see Town win promotion at Wembley and Ireland getting through the group stages would be a top double!”

All the Republic’s big games will be shown on the big screen at the Irish Centre in Fitzwilliam Street, where there will also be food, music and a raffle.

The game against Spain (next Thursday, 7.45) is being sponsored by Huddersfield-based former rugby league star Mick Murphy and the clash with Italy (Monday week, June 18, 7.45) by Gerry Murphy, the former Town academy chief who is honorary president of the Huddersfield Republic supporters branch.

The Republic are optimistic keeper Shay Given will be fit to face Croatia after problems with his knee, calf and blisters.
