Out-of-contract Huddersfield Town stalwart Nathan Clarke is set to join Scunthorpe United.
While his younger brother Tom considers the offer of a new deal from Town, out-of-contract Nathan looks like choosing the Glanford Park club rather than their League I rivals Bury.
He was loaned to the Gigg Lane side last season and boss Ritchie Barker was keen to make the move permanent.
Academy product Clarke has made 300 Town appearances, but only one in the last two seasons, during which he has also been loaned to Colchester and Oldham.
In total he has played 349 games since his debut at Stoke in September 2001 – experience Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill is keen to call on as he looks to improve on last season’s 18th-placed finish.
Clarke will join up with former Town teammate Michael Collins if he completes the move.
Meanwhile another ex-Town man, midfielder James Berrett, is about to agree a new contract at Carlisle according to manager Greg Abbott.
Berrett, who has played 103 times and scored 20 goals in two seasons at Carlisle, will join defenders Peter Murphy and Frank Simek in putting pen to paper.
Meanwhile former Town striker Phil Jevons has signed for Blue Square Premier newcomers Hyde after leaving Morecambe.
