HUDDERSFIELD Town head to Sheffield Wednesday with boss Simon Grayson confident Keith Southern will be a driving force in the Championship.

The 31-year-old helped guide Town to a 1-0 victory over Derby, which was sealed by a first-minute goal from Danny Ward.

Grayson praised the whole team for their attitude and workrate, which was exemplified by his former Blackpool teammate Southern.

“You know what you are going to get with Keith and he will work and work and work,” said Grayson, who reports home debutant Adam Hammill is fine after coming off suffering cramp.

“Keith isn’t a nine out of 10 player every week but he’s certainly a seven and eight because he is Mr Consistency.

“He will tell you he is not the most gifted footballer out there – there are better players around – but he plays wholeheartedly every game and you need people like that, people who will run through a brick wall for you.

“That’s what you get with Keith and I know, because I played alongside him and I’ve managed him and he’s a credit to his profession.

“I was delighted to get him because he rounded off the midfield jigsaw I was looking to complete, with players who complement each other well, and he’s showing the quality which made him a regular at Blackpool for 10 years. When managers left, new ones came in and kept picking him and that tells you what a good player he is.
