STEVE EYRE has told teenage frontman Godwin Abadaki: “Show us what you’re about.”
Town have taken the 18-year-old Rochdale player on a youth loan until January, when they will have the option of making the move permanent – and handed him a debut in yesterday’s Under 21 League 2-0 defeat at Derby.
Nigerian-born Abadaki came through the youth system at Spotland and has made two substitute appearances for Rochdale’s first team last season before heading out on loan to non-league Hyde.
Town’s senior professional development coach Eyre knows Abadaki from his time as Rochdale manager and is keen to see how he has developed.
“Godwin is physically strong, quick and hungry to score goals – but he’s still raw and learning the game,” said Eyre.
“He has already played in Rochdale’s first team and acquitted himself well. His attributes fit what we want to add to the development squad.
“This five-month loan (through to January 14) is effectively an extended trial period for Godwin. The challenge is now with him to continue his progression.”
Abadaki signed his first professional contract in 2011 and came off he bench during the goalless League I draw a Tranmere in January.
