DEAN HOYLE was delighted to see Huddersfield Town old boy Jordan Rhodes score both Scotland goals in their 2-1 friendly win in Luxembourg.

Current Town defender Paul Dixon, who was winning is third cap, supplied the cross for Blackburn’s £8m striker to head his first after 10 minutes.

Rhodes doubled his tally with a close-range finish in the 22nd minute as Scotland dominated the first half before being forced to defend in the second.

It was a fifth cap and second start for Rhodes, who made his first full appearance, and grabbed his first Scotland goal, in the 3-1 August win over Australia when he was still a Town player.

Interim manager Billy Stark said: “Jordan has shown once again that, if a chance presents itself, he can sniff them out and score.”

Town chairman Hoyle, who saw Rhodes return to Huddersfield and score in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn last midweek, added: “Good luck to him.

“Jordan is a very good footballer and a great lad.

“And while the timing of his move was tough, it was an excellent deal for us and him.

“I didn’t really think anyone would meet our £8m asking price, but Blackburn did, and we also have a 20% sell-on clause.”

Left-back Dixon, a summer signing from Dundee United, will train with Town today ahead of tomorrow’s home Championship clash with Brighton.

He had a recovery session at the club yesterday before going home to bed!

“Paul had a lengthy journey back from Luxembourg, then down from Scotland, so it was important he got some rest,” explained Town boss Simon Grayson.

“It’s great he got 90 minutes for Scotland. It’s good for his confidence and it’s good for the club.”

Midfielder Oliver Norwood, who was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland were held 1-1 by Azerbaijan in their World Cup qualifier at Windsor Park, will also train today.

Brighton keeper Tomasz Kuszczak played for Poland in their 3-1 defeat by Uruguay in Gdansk.

Town academy player Jake Charles earned his fifth cap for the Wales Under 17s as they fell to a 3-1 defeat in Estonia.

The European Championship qualifier was abandoned after 27 minutes back in October because of snow in Tallinn.

It was a third successive defeat for Wales.
