HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Simon Grayson believes injured trio James Vaughan, Jermaine Beckford and Sean Scannell are all making progress on their fitness as Town start the build-up to Saturday’s Championship clash at Charlton.

The boss is awaiting the outcome of a second scan on Vaughan, who has missed the last five matches because of a thigh problem.

Meanwhile hamstring problems ruled his fellow striker Beckford and winger Scannell out of the 1-0 home defeat by Brighton which left Town eighth.

Those two appear closer to a return than Vaughan, but at this stage, Grayson is unwilling to rule any of the trio in, or out, of the game at The Valley, where 14th-placed Charlton will chase a fourth straight win.

“All three are working with our physio staff, and all three of them feel they are improving, which is good news,” said Grayson, who will field a mainly junior side in today’s Under 21 game against Nottingham Forest at Canalside (1.00).

“With injuries like these, there’s a mental as well as physical side, and hopefully by Thursday, we will be able to assess all three of them in a full training session.

“We’d love to have them back for what is a busy spell of games (Town are at Middlesbrough a week tonight, then host Leeds on Saturday week), but we’ll take it day by day, and match by match.”
