HUDDERSFIELD Town's Adam Clayton says he has nothing to prove against former employers Leeds in Saturday’s crunch lunchtime derby at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Town’s tenacious midfielder returns from a one-match ban to face the club who let him go during the close-season.

Clayton was contracted to Leeds until 2013 and admits his reunion with Town boss Simon Grayson, who signed him from Manchester City when in charge at Elland Road, was a surprise.

“At the time I was upset that Leeds were willing to transfer me,” said the 23-year-old, who caught the eye for United in the Championship last season after loan spells at Peterborough and MK Dons the previous campaign.

“They’re a big club and I had settled in well and made my mark, but their willingness to let me go helped me decide coming to Huddersfield was the right move.

“I love it here and I’ve no regrets about leaving Leeds because we have a great set-up, great management and a great squad.

“I still have mates at Elland Road, people like Leigh Bromby and Michael Brown, and it will be interesting to come up against my old muckers.

“But I certainly don’t think I have anything to prove. I’m a Town player now and I’ll be focusing on helping us get the three points.”

Clayton lost his ever-present record after his suspension for five bookings in the 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough and is desperate to return to the fray.

“It was frustrating to have to sit out the Middlesbrough match, but this is a great game to come back for, as long as I’m selected of course,” he added.

“There’s going to be a big crowd inside the stadium and it’s shaping up to be an exciting clash, so bring it on!”

It’s an all-ticket match, with more than 20,000 expected. Leeds have sold their allocation while Town fans should purchase by close of business tomorrow.
