BOLTON boss Dougie Freedman should have the inside track on James Vaughan, who is set to make his first start in nine games for Town today.

The pair worked together at Crystal Palace, who had him on loan in 2010-11, when he was with Everton.

“Vaughny has been very unfortunate with injuries. He’s had a very stop-start career, really,” said Freedman of the Norwich player (right) who is back after a thigh problem.

“He’s certainly talented and definitely a player you have got to be careful of in this division.

“Maybe these injuries take their toll in terms of the sharpness and fitness, and it seems James has been this way for the majority of his career.”

Freedman continued: “He certainly has the ability to play in the Premier League but it’s now difficult for him to get where he was going as a 16-year-old lad.

“He isn’t the first to pick these things up and he won’t be the last.

“When you are a sportsman being asked to train at such an intensity day in, day out, then not everyone’s body can cope with it.”
