DOUGIE FREEDMAN remained defiant after seeing a third win as Bolton boss snatched from his grasp by two very familar faces.

Wanderers’ second-half onslaught looked set to bear fruit until Town’s 87th-minute equaliser, created by Alan Lee, who played alongside Freedman at Crystal Palace, and fired in by James Vaughan, who played under him when he was manager at Selhurst Park.

It meant a fifth draw in eight games at the helm for the 38-year-old former striker, who has been charged with regaining the Premier League place Bolton lost last season.

His side remained 18th, but the Glaswegian insisted: "We didn’t get what we deserved.

"You are always disappointed when you don’t win. I think a fair result would have seen us take the three points.

"We showed spirit, and we went about the game well. We moved the ball around, created chances and had desire."

Bolton had 2,084 vociferous supporters on their first visit to Huddersfield since 2000-01, and Freedman added: "I think we showed them exactly how football should be played.

"I am disappointed for the players and the amazing travelling support we had.

"I think, if we continue to play that way, we can move up the table.

"We had good shape, we defended well and attacked with the right amount of numbers."

Freedman singled out former Manchester United and Burnley man Chris Eagles, who helped set up his side’s equaliser and had a penalty saved by Alex Smithies before putting Bolton in front with his seventh goal of the season in the 80th minute.
