HUDDERSFIELD are on the trail of Nahki Wells – but don’t expect neighbours Bradford City to part with the Bermudan strike star until this summer at the earliest.

The 22-year-old has hit the headlines during the Bantams Capital One Cup run, and aims to help them make the Wembley final by toppling Aston Villa next week.

Wells scored the opener as City, who have already seen off Wigan and Arsenal, beat Villa 3-1 in the semi-final first leg at Valley Parade.

The former Carlisle man followed up with a 17th goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Oxford in League II.

Bradford, currently ninth, are desperate to get back into League I, and the money generated by their cup run means they could resist the temptation to cash in on Wells this month.

Signed during the 2011 close-season after his release by Carlisle, he is under contract until 2015, but that hasn’t stopped a string of clubs showing a keen interest.

Town’s Championship rivals Leeds and Wolves are also said to be hot on the trail of the man who has netted 29 times in total for Bradford.

Sources within the club suggest Town are keen, and it’s been claimed Lee Novak could form part of a bid to bring Wells in immediately.

Because the Geordie frontman, who has four goals this season and 40 in total for Town, is out of contract this summer, he would be able to leave for free in the close-season.

Doing business on Novak this month would leave Town needing to bring in another frontman to supplement loan duo James Vaughan and Jermaine Beckford and veteran Alan Lee.
