HUDDERSFIELD Town's Danny Ward is desperate to make up for lost time and stay firmly on the goal trail – starting at home to Charlton tomorrow.

Town’s midweek match-winner is confident of beating a leg problem picked up in training as Mark Robins’ men chase back-to-back Championship wins.

Sean Scannell’s hamstring injury led to Ward’s surprise inclusion against Middlesbrough after more than two months out (metatarsal).

Despite limited time in training, he stepped off the bench at the John Smith’s three days ago to topple the Teessiders with a sizzling stoppage-time strike .

The 2-1 victory hoisted Town up to 16th in the Championship, on the same 44-points mark as Charlton and Millwall.

Ward, 22, is desperate to do his bit to help keep Town up and said: “Before my injury, I’d not started the season as well as I wanted to.

“But there are still 10 games left and that gives me chance to show what I can do. I’ve still got a lot left in the tank.”

Like fellow substitute Alan Lee, who scored Town’s equaliser , it was a second goal of the season for Ward, who replaced Theo Robinson with 12 minutes left.

“I went on to play in the hole behind the forwards and I got a bit of freedom because the game was open at that stage,” he explained.

“I love cutting in from the right and I love having shots.”
