JAMES VAUGHAN has been rewarded for helping fire Huddersfield Town to safety in the latter stages of the Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old loan striker from Norwich City, who the club are desperate to add permanently to their squad, has won April’s npower Championship Player of the Month award.

He netted four goals in the month, including a hat trick in the vital win at relegated Bristol City in the penultimate match of the season and a solitary strike at home to Millwall.

Vaughan, of course, also scored the vital second goal in the 2-2 draw at home to Barnsley which guaranteed Town’s safety , but that of course came in May.

His win makes him the first Town player to win one of the league’s monthly accolades since the club’s return to the second tier of English football.

The award caps an excellent season for injury-hit Vaughan, who had already been chosen to receive the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy as Town’s Player of the Year at the 2013 Annual Awards after netting 14 goals in just 31 league starts.

Vaughan is just the second loanee to win the club’s Player of the Year award, following fellow striker Leon Knight in 2001-02.

Town are looking to make striker signings following the confirmed departure of Lee Novak, the release of Alan Lee and the return of loan man Jermaine Beckford to parent club Leicester City.
