Fans urged to pull on their boots!

TOWN fans are being urged to put their best foot forward in a fund-raising Terriers Trek to the Tykes.

Club officials hope 100 will take part in a sponsored walk to Town's match at Barnsley on Saturday, February 22.

It's an 18-mile hike which will start from the McAlpine at 7.30am on the day and it's an event which mirrors that led by Steve Kindon to Blackburn back in 1983.

Commercial manager Mike Smith, who was a member of Kindon's party all those years ago, explained:

"A sponsored walk has been suggested for a while and we feel the derby game at Barnsley is a great opportunity.

"The event back in 1983 was to raise funds for a disabled enclosure at Leeds Road, whereas this one will provide valuable cash to help keep the club in business."

Smith explained: "Anyone wanting to take part should be at least 16 years of age, be physically fit enough to complete the challenge of 18 miles and, preferably, be able to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship."

A separate sponsored walk has been launched through schools, with under 16s invited to take part in walks to raise additional funds.

Details of the Terriers Trek to the Tykes - backed by the Stadium Health and Fitness Club - are available from Sue Beaumont in the Town ticket office on 01484-484123.

Fans should register quickly because numbers are limited to 100 for safety reasons.

"We are sure a lot of fans will want to join us on the Trek, so let's hope we drive back with three points!" added Smith.
