Former Huddersfield Town players heap praise of record-breaking Huddersfield Town team

HUDDERSFIELD Town's record unbeaten Football League run is something the players, management and staff will proudly be able to recall for the rest of their lives.

Thats the view of Mark Lillis as former players heaped praise on the current squad for eclipsing Nottingham Forests 42-game sequence of the 1970s with another hard-earned win.

Lillis watched as Jordan Rhodes double defeated Notts County 2-1 to leave Lee Clarks side unbeaten at League I level since December 28 last year as they prepare to head to leaders Charlton Athletic a week today.

Lillis, who runs a coaching school in Spain, said: Its a fantastic achievement for Lee, his staff, the players and the club as a whole.

When they get older and have long hung up their boots, people will ask the lads what they did when they were a footballer and theyll all be able to say I was part of the Huddersfield Town team which broke the Football League record of unbeaten matches.

Thats a wonderful thing to be able to say because winning games at this level is far from easy, I can tell you that from my years as a player and 20-odd in the coaching business.

Its a big achievement both mentally and physically with all the challenges that come along and its only fitting this club should be in the history books again.

Once youve been at this club and I spent 12 years here as player, community officer and youth coach it never leaves you. We were the first to win the league three times in a row and the next were Arsenal, so its fitting that the next record to aim for is theirs, the all-time Football League record of 49.
