Steve Black column: Fantastic kick-off

HI everyone, hope to find you all well and in the best spirit for the festive holiday season.

What a good day last Saturday was!

First home game, and first win for us, was an excellent return from a performance full of good football and at times true grit.

We started the game well, showed patience and a growing togetherness as the team settled into their passing game.

The patient build-up began to develop into a series of opportunities that, on another day, could have taken us out of sight by half-time.

Robbie Williams in particular went close with a couple of headers – forcing one outstanding save from the Hereford keeper.

At 0-0 Hereford came out after half-time fighting for survival, and to their credit put us under enormous pressure.

We then saw the other side to this Huddersfield team, the grit, the determination and the refusal to yield to that period of sustained Hereford attacking. That spirit in defence will hold us in good stead as the season progresses, it certainly did on Saturday.
