ROMANIAN trialist Adrian Patulea admits he would love to re-ignite his career with Lincoln City after inspiring them to a 6-0 win over Lincoln United yesterday, says the Lincolnshire Echo
The former Rapid Bucharest striker smashed in a second-half hat-trick against the Whites as the Imps clinched the inaugural John Reames Memorial Trophy with a 6-0 derby win.
Goals from trialist Sam Mullarkey and David Graham had given the Imps a first-half lead, before Patulea and a Gary King header sealed the rout.
It was an excellent performance against their UniBond Division One South neighbours, although Patulea’s performance grabbed all the headlines.
Having enjoyed a spell in Dubai and with Bucharest, he now hopes to forge a decent career in the Football League.
The circumstances surrounding Patulea’s trial could not be more bizarre.
After handing his CV to Imps boss Peter Jackson, Patulea was spotted running around City’s training ground with his wife on his back in his bid to build up his fitness.
Patulea then knocked on Jackson’s office at the Bunkers Hill complex asking for a trial and the Imps boss eventually caved in, playing him for the first time yesterday.
And having seen the forward’s performance yesterday, Jackson said he was impressed with his contribution.
“It’s a bit of a strange story because Adrian came to me even before pre-season even started,” said Jackson.
“He gave me his CV and I said to him that when we started training to come and see me and I thought nothing of it.
“The next thing I know he is spotted running around our training pitch in the early morning with his wife on his back. That is no joke either. Talk about trying to impress.
“He’s only trained with us for the last two days so we thought we’d stick him on for the second half yesterday. He certainly did OK and it was enough for me to have another look at him next week.”
