Marcus wins badminton quarter-finals

Bolster Moor’s Marcus Ellis has won the badminton quarter finals in Rio!

The duo beat Japan with a score of 21-19 21-17.

They will now go on on to fight for a place in the finals to get the gold medal.

BREAKING: Body of man found in reservoir

Police say they have found a man’s body in the reservoir.

Underwater search teams at the Booth Wood Reservoir have located a vehicle and recovered the body of a man from the water.

The red car was reported to have left the road and entered the water around 8.20pm on Sunday evening. Following a search operation during the evening by police and the fire service, the Underwater Search Unit today located the vehicle under the water.

A short time later, they located the body of a man.

The body of the deceased has been recovered from the water and enquiries continue to determine the full circumstances of what took place.

The vehicle remains in the water at this time.

Sergeant Adrian Newman of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West said; “The underwater search team were on site this morning and first located the vehicle, before the body of the deceased was recovered at 11.55am. The family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are continuing to appeal for anyone who has any information about the incident to contact police on 101, quoting 1536 of the 14/8.”

Car entered water next to Turnpike Inn

We’ve been told the car went into the water “practically at the bottom of the car park” belonging to the Turnpike Inn pub on Oldham Road.

Reservoir search team "identify location"

Search teams at Booth Wood Reservoir have identified a location about 50ft into the reservoir, according to the photographer at the scene.

He says that a red ball has been dropped, possibly marking a location.

The marine team from Humberside have been scouring the reservoir in boats, using specialist equipment to scan under the water.

Reports say a dive team have now gone in as well.

Marcus Ellis fighting for gold at 1pm

Huddersfield badminton player Marcus Ellis will be playing today at 1pm to fight for a chance for that gold medal.

The player from Bolster Moor is playing Japan along with team mate Chris Langridge in the quarter finals.

Reports of dog attack in Sheepridge

We’ve had reports of a possible dog attack in Sheepridge. Police are currently at the scene on Riddings Road. An eyewitness called to say officers were handling a “Staffie-type” dog that was reportedly covered in blood. Police have confirmed they’re aware of an ongoing incident.

Attempted robbery in Cleckheaton

A dogwalker was attacked with a stone by a man demanding cash from her in Cleckheaton.

The 44-year-old woman was walking on a footpath between Moor Lane and Summerdale when she was approached last Wednesday.

The suspect has been described as wearing all black clothing and a black baseball cap with his face covered.

DC Roberts of Kirklees CID said; “This was quite clearly a terrifying incident for the victim and it is very fortunate she was not seriously injured.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in and around the area near to Moor Lane, either walking, jogging or driving who may have seen someone matching the suspect’s description, or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the person responsible.”

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police on 101.

Mytholmroyd collision victim named

A 21-year-old man whose body was found in Mytholmroyd on Thursday has been named by police.

Jacob Chothia died after his motorbike is thought to have collided with a tree on Burnley Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers are continuing to appeal for information or witnesses who may have seen Jacob’s last movements. Anyone with any information should contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.

Our thoughts are with Jacob’s family at this time.

We’ve had a call to say traffic on the M62 westbound is at a standstill near junction 26 - there doesn’t seem to be much more information on this at this time but just be aware and allow extra time for your journey.

Oldham Road collision

Just an update on that collision in Rishworth on Oldham Road: No-one has been recovered from the reservoir yet and an underwater search party are to be sent out.

The driver was the sole occupant and is thought to be a local man in his thirties, his family have been informed.

M62 madness

It looks really busy and is down to a three-vehicle collision earlier. All lanes have now re-opened so it should be clearing soon.

M606 clear

The traffic on the M606 has now cleared - so for the record it’s busy on the M62 but everywhere else is business as usual.

Traffic updates

More traffic updates. There’s a lot of congestion on the M606 southbound, so that’s heading towards the M62. Watch out for that.

The M62 is still busy eastbound between Brighouse and Chain Bar and it’s also getting busy westbound between junctions 21 and 20 with a lane closed due to a broken down vehicle.

Weavings Lane waste site fire

Ash Milnes has taken these pictures of the fire at Weavings lane waste site yesterday.

There are still crews in attendance, although the fire is thinning down. Crews from Dewsbury are heading there now and are expected to be there throughout the morning, although the incident is more or less under control.

We are also waiting to hear from Kirklees on when the site will be back open.

Oldham Road collision

Here’s an update on the previous post on the Oldham Road collision:

Police were called to the scene last night following reports a vehicle had left the road and entered the Booth Wood Reservoir at around 8.20pm.

Officers attended supported by the police helicopter and the Fire and Ambulance service.

A large scale operation to locate the vehicle is in place and will continue in to Monday when specialist under water search teams are due to search the water.

It is believed that the driver was the sole occupant of the red car which travelling west bound along Oldham Road towards Rishworth, before it left the carriageway. The driver is believed to be a local man in his thirties. His family have been informed.

Sergeant Aaron Gudgeon of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West said; “The road remains closed to allow specialist teams to conduct their enquiries and to recover the vehicle and we thank the public for their understanding and cooperation.

“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling in and around Rishworth on Sunday evening and who may have any information about the incident to come forward to police via 101.

“Enquires are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what took place.”

Information can be passed to the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West via 101, quoting 1536 of the 14/8.

Oldham Road closed in both directions

There was a serious road collision on Oldham Road in Rishworth last night and the road is expected to remain closed throughout the day.

The collision happened near the Turnpike Inn. The road is closed in both directions at Pike End Road so you’l need to find an alternative route if you’re travelling that way this morning. The M62 junction 22 at the turning circle by Rishworth School is also closed.

Morning all, start of a new week. Monday misery on the M62 - very slow traffic eastbound between Brighouse and Chain Bar so allow extra time for your journey.

We have reports that crews are still present at the Kirklees Waste Site in Dewsbury, although the fire has thinned down. We’ll bring you any updates we have on the incident throughout the day, so stay with us.
