Detectives investigating the suspected murder of Claudia Lawrence will today search an alleyway behind her York home.

Police are expected to search an alley way by Claudia’s house in Hepworth Street, York which marks a potential ‘significant’ lead in the ongoing murder inquiry.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, head of North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime, said: “The review remains very active and the team are currently working on a lead that may indicate the alleyway at the rear of Claudia’s house is significant.

“We still don’t know if Claudia left for work on the morning of Thursday 19 March 2009 or whether something happened overnight within her house.”

The search comes just days before Claudia’s family mark her 41st birthday on Friday, February 27th.

Det Supt Malyn added: “This is a very poignant week for Claudia’s family and friends as they should be celebrating her 41st birthday on Friday, rather than marking another upsetting milestone since she disappeared almost six years ago.

“Our thoughts are with her loved-ones at this difficult time and as we approach the sixth anniversary of the investigation next month.”

Claudia Lawrence has not been seen since Wednesday, March 18th.

She was reported missing by her father two days later after concerns were raised by her pal.

The chef had failed to turn up for her 6am shift at the University of York on the Thursday.

North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime Unit has been actively reviewing and investigating the Claudia Lawrence case since October 2013.

Within the past year as the review gathered momentum, a 60-year-old man was arrested in May on suspicion of murder. He was later released from his bail.

A 47-year-old man was also arrested in July on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. He remains on police bail while enquiries continue.
