Police are hunting a man after an armed robbery at Londis in Netherthong this afternoon.

A female shop worker was left terrified after she had a gun pointed in her face following the raid just after 4pm.

Officers are on the ground with dogs and the police helicopter has been brought in to help track the criminal.

Shop owner, Warren Halstead, confirmed the robber had got away with hundreds of pounds.

“Someone has come in with a mask on and pointed some sort of gun at her,” he said.

“He said fill that with money.

“She was absolutely terrified, she’s a complete wreck.

“It’s the first time I’ve been robbed in 27 years of running this store.”

Mr Halstead said no one had been hurt and the man had fled the scene as soon as he got the cash.

The shop was shut as police descended on the picturesque Holme Valley village.
